PROJECT DETAILS

Provide Window Dressings & Wallpaper for 3 Bedrooms & Open Plan Living Area

FABRIC USED

Prestigious Textiles, Ashley Wilde & Villa Nova

Jenny contacted me when they were nearing completion of their new build home for a whole house project, providing blinds for the bedrooms and something to cover the large expanse of glass in the open plan living area.

After an initial chat via email, I invited Jenny to my studio for a design consultation and a chat about her requirements. I was at this point that I realised the full expanse of the glass to be covered in the living area… one pole alone would need to be 9 metres in length!

Jenny was looking for something to offer privacy when in the living area but didn’t want any heavy fabrics that would block out daylight. I suggested we look at some sheer fabrics as they would do just that but would also aid with softening the direct sunlight and prevent fading of interior furnishings.

A stunning metallic sheer by Prestigious Textiles was perfect for the styling and toning of the room and being a wide width sheer with a pre lead-weighted hem was perfect, as having to hand-sew hems on 37 metres of fabric would have been a task in itself!

The lounge and kitchen received a dark grey shade, whilst the dining area received a soft silver. Due to the size of the windows to be covered, a standard curtain pole was out of the question, so I suggested Silent Gliss Metropoles with a wave heading as this would keep the stack back of the curtains to a minimum and the poles would be continuously supported with multiple brackets.

In total, 37 metres of double-width sheer fabric was used, and a combined length of 21 metres of Metropole. A huge relief once all installed!

The lounge also received two roman blinds with mini pelmets, in a striking semi-sheer fabric by Villa Nova. The wallpaper by Casamance was a lovely grey and had a soft suede feel, adding a bit of texture and subtle sheen to the feature wall.

The master bedroom received two roman blinds with mini pelmets in an embossed fabric by Ashley Wilde, with another stunning wallpaper by Clarke & Clarke.

Bedroom 2 received two roman blinds in a beautiful geometric design by Prestigious Textiles. Finally, Bedroom 3 received one roman blind in a metallic textured fabric, again by Ashley Wilde with wallpaper by Clarke & Clarke.

I was delighted to assist Jenny with the window dressings for their new build house and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of such a large expanse of glass.
