Provide Window Dressings for Lounge & Kitchen/Dining Area

FABRIC USED

My client Fiona contacted me to enquire about window dressings for their beautiful new build home which they were about to move into. These were for two main areas, the lounge and open plan kitchen/dining room.

After an initial chat about her requirements via email, I arranged a design consultation with Fiona in my studio to look at various fabric options and to get a feel for her likes and dislikes.

The lounge had a set of patio doors and a window at each side, and a gable end which had lower and upper glass panels. She only required the lower glass-covered and wanted to have the option of making the room feel cosy during the winter and also the option of blocking out the strong summer sunlight.

I suggested a pair of curtains with pelmets for the lower gable glass, with sheer rollers fitted into the recess. For the side window and patio door, I advised on two roman blinds fitted above to allow as much light as possible, also with sheer roller blinds fitted inside the recess.

Fiona really liked a fabric I had on display in my studio, so after showing her the different colourways, she fell in love with the soft Amethyst shade of the design. To keep it neutral, we opted for a plain grey for the curtains which were fitted to corded curtain tracks. The lounge can be overlooked from a gallery area above so I upholstered the pelmet mounting boards in the same fabric as the pelmets, avoiding the timber boards being visible.

The second room I was asked to assist Fiona with was the open plan kitchen/dining/family area which had a lovely country feel to it. We looked at fabrics that would tie in well but also to add a touch of soft colour.

After looking at various options, Fiona decided on a lovely floral print with soft, fresh colours which work perfectly in the room. The bay window we decided on roman blinds which mirrored the windows, and the patio doors we opted for a pelmet with sheer roller blinds fitted in the recess.

This was a lovely order and I took great pride I assisting Fiona with her bespoke soft furnishings.

Testimonial

I was initially quite anxious about having to choose fabrics as I am not the best at making decisions, but Katherine made me feel completely at ease and made the whole process really enjoyable. Her advice on how to dress each window was perfect and we are thrilled with our new soft furnishings.
